Need a unique wedding idea? Grab that boomwhacker!
We’ve all been there. That desolate period which begins once the speeches have finished and ends when the first dance starts can be a killer at any wedding. It’s almost a wedding entertainment vacuum where people attempt to pry open heavy eyelids as a result of daytime drinking and do everything they can to remain in the party spirit.
It’s a little bit like the Neverland which exists between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. What to do?
When planing your big day, you’ll undoubtedly hit on the subject of unique wedding ideas. Stuff no one else has thought of. Such thinking successfully spawned the comical first dance phenomena, which involves newlyweds surprising their guests by transitioning - usually somewhat awkwardly - from a smoochy Whitney Houston ballad to gyrating suggestively to Baby Got Back by Sir Mix-A-Lot.
Unfortunately, like so many practices which go viral on social media, countless brides and grooms now perform their own version of the comical first dance making it anything but a unique idea for a wedding. And, regardless, it still fails to entertain guests during the aforementioned vacuum.
At Beats On The Day, we had an idea of our own. With years of experience in corporate team building, we know a thing or two about getting people to work together in harmony. We therefore decided to turn corporate fun (it is possible, we promise) into wedding fun and have discovered the best way to fill that void!
We all go to a lot of weddings. I can therefore guarantee you’ve heard Come On Eileen countless times, cheered as the best man inadvertently catches the bouquet and know the dance routine to The Macarena backwards. What few of you - ok, none of you - will ever have done at a wedding, is hold a boomwhacker. In fact, I’m willing to bet you may never have held one.
Handing out two plastic pieces of tubing to your wedding breakfast guests may seem a little odd, but that’s part of the fun. It is unexpected and unique in the truest sense of the word. Where these musical, indestructible marvels shine, however, is in their ability to generate interactive wedding entertainment.
We’ve all got a hidden drummer inside of us, and, while you may curse your inability to tap along in time to an Arctic Monkeys track, you’ll be surprised at how easily you can turn into Keith Moon (albeit without the need to drive a Rolls Royce into a swimming pool). You’ll also be surprised at how much fun can be prised out of these inanimate objects during those moments Uncle Bill usually reserves for a quiet snooze at his table. Wedding entertainment should be fun, and we’re on a constant mission to ensure that’s the case!
